Rules for the 2nd Annual Lambton Shores

Novice/Bantam LL/HL Silverstick Tournament

November 30th 2018 to December 2nd 2018

 


1.    To be eligible to participate in this tournament, approved OMHA rosters (or Canadian or American equivalents) must be presented to a Tournament Official prior to the team's first game.  Affiliated players must also provide approved documentation.

2.    This tournament is fully sanctioned by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, and all OMHA rules apply.

3.    Each team roster may contain a maximum of 20 players and 6 team officials. The tournament roster sheet must include all eligible players and officials prior to the start of each team’s first game. There will be no additions permitted thereafter.

4.    Selections of teams, game times and necessary byes will be the product of the draw.  Schedule is subject to change.

5.    Any team failing to appear for a game as outlined on the official schedule shall be considered losers by a 1 to 0 score (Winning team receives 5 points for the purpose of a Tie Breaker).  Two such forfeits in the same division may be ruled as cause for a change in schedule. The Tournament Director has the right to reschedule.

6.    Teams should be prepared to start games as much as 15 minutes earlier then the scheduled start time should the tournament be running ahead of schedule.

7.    Prior to games, teams must be prepared to play when the ice is ready, as the 2 minute pregame warm-up will begin once the Zamboni has finished resurfacing the ice.

8.    All protests or disputes must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Director as soon as possible. The Tournament Director’s disposition of such disputes will be final.

9.    Any suspension under the OHF or OMHA rules will also be a tournament suspension.

10. Any team official or player receiving a major penalty for fighting or a match penalty will be immediately suspended from the tournament.

11. Any coach, manager, trainer or player found to be making a travesty of the game shall be removed from further participation at the Tournament Director’s discretion.

12. There shall be no time-outs.

Tournament Format

Novice

a.    Novice Division will consist of 12 teams, with 3 separate Pools containing 4 teams each

b.    Each team will play the other 3 teams in their Pool once, resulting in 3 Preliminary Round Robin games played per team

c.    All Novice games shall have the same regulation game lengths, which is as follows:    2 ten minute and 1 fifteen minute stop time periods (10-10-15)

d.    Upon completion of Preliminary Round Robin Play, the 4 teams in each Pool will be seeded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th as per the following:   

1.      Best win/loss record (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.  If tied in points, team with most wins is seeded higher

2.      If 2 teams tied, use head to head result.  If still tied, proceed to Tie Breaker

3.      If 3 or more teams tied, proceed to Tie Breaker

e.    Each Pool will advance its 1st and 2nd place teams to the Championship Elimination Round

f.     After Each Pool has advanced its 1st and 2nd place teams to the Championship Elimination Round, the 6 remaining teams will be reseeded 1st to 6th as per the following:

1.      Best win/loss record (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss).  If tied in points, team with most wins is seeded higher

2.      If 2 teams tied, use head to head result.  If still tied, proceed to Tie Breaker

3.      If 3 or more teams tied, proceed to Tie Breaker

Bantam

a.    Bantam Division will consist of 16 teams, with 4 separate Pools containing 4 teams each

b.    Each team will play the other 3 teams in their Pool once, resulting in 3 Preliminary Round Robin games played per team

c.    All Bantam games shall have the same regulation game lengths, which is as follows:  1 ten minute and 2 fifteen minute stop time periods (10-15-15)

d.    Upon completion of Preliminary Round Robin Play, the 4 teams in each Pool will be seeded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th as per the following:   

1.      Best win/loss record (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss).  If tied in points, team with most wins is seeded higher

2.      If 2 teams tied, use head to head result.  If still tied, proceed to Tie Breaker

3.      If 3 or more teams tied, proceed to Tie Breaker

e.    Each Pool will advance its 1st and 2nd place teams to the Championship Elimination Round

Tie Breaker

These Tie Breaker rules are to be used in seeding of the teams after Preliminary Round Robin Play has been completed.  They are to be followed in order, sequentially, until the seeding of the teams is completed.

1.    Each Preliminary Round Robin Game will have 5 points available to the 2 participating teams.  A team receives 1 point for each period it wins, ½ a point for each period it ties, and 0 points for each period it loses.  Also, a team will receive 2 points for winning the game, 1 point for tying the game, and 0 points for losing the game.

2.    Total points accumulated in all Preliminary Round Robin Play will determine seeding

3.    If teams are tied with points, head to head is used if applicable

4.    If still tied, use Total Goals For / (Total Goals For + Total Goals Against). Team with the higher value is seeded higher

5.    If still tied, use the time of the teams 1st goal scored in the tournament.  The team with the quickest 1st goal is seeded higher

6.    If still tied, the team with the fewest penalty minutes accumulated in Preliminary Round Robin Play is seeded higher

Overtime Rules

a)    Preliminary Round Robin Games that end in a tie after regulation will remain as a tie.

b)    Quarterfinal Games that end in a tie after regulation will proceed to a (5 on 5) 5 minute sudden victory overtime.  If the game is still tied, game will proceed to a (4 on 4) 2 minute sudden victory overtime.  If the game is still tied, the game will proceed to a (3 on 3) 2 minute sudden victory overtime. If the game is still tied, the game will proceed to a (2 on 2) 2 minute sudden victory overtime.  If the game is still tied, the game will proceed to a (1 on 1) 10 minute sudden victory overtime and will continue until a goal is scored and a winner is declared.

c)    Semi-Final and Championship games that end in a tie after regulation will proceed to 10 minute sudden victory overtime periods as required.  The first overtime goal determines the winner (the changing of ends by the goaltenders is at the referee’s discretion.  Also, it is at the Referee’s discretion whether ice conditions require resurfacing of the ice between overtime periods)
