MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Reverend Canon George Menzies

1926 ~ 2001,

As the former Rector of Christ Anglican Church, Petrolia and St John’s Church, Wyoming he served these parishes with the same unconditional commitment and loyalty that he showed his Country, his Community and his Family.

Canon George as many knew him, was one of the original organizers of the Petrolia Midget Silver Stick Tournament and remained an active member of the tournaments executive committee until 1999. A life-long supporter of Education and Minor sports his dedication and service to these areas was evident in his involvement. Canon George served as Chairman of the Petrolia District School Board in the 1970’s and was an original member of the Helen Kavanaugh Nicol Scholarship Fund selection committee. During his very active 40 years involvement with the Petrolia Minor Hockey Association, he was twice awarded the distinction of “Mr. Hockey”. He was also an avid fan and supporter of local Junior ‘B’ and Senior ‘A’ hockey teams for many years. Canon George was often heard explaining to people that he had two congregations . . .
