Tournament Rules – All Divisions

1. All OMHA rules apply. All suspensions related to assessed penalties will be enforced within the tournament.  In addition, any player receiving a major penalty for fighting, any match penalty or gross misconduct shall be suspended for the remainder of the tournament. Any player receiving two majors in the tournament will be suspended for the rest of the tournament.

2. Any team member receiving a game misconduct shall be suspended from at least the next tournament game. As per OHF 2019-2020 suspension chart.

3. 'FIGHTING’ is not allowed in a Silver Stick Tournament. Any player receiving a fighting penalty is out of the tournament.

4. Any player, coach, manager or trainer found to be making a travesty of the game shall be expelled from tournament play.

5. Any player, coach, manager or trainer found to be abusive toward ANY PLAYER, TOURNAMENT OFFICIAL, OR VOLUNTEER will be expelled from further tournament participation.  Further, any attempt by any team official, player or parent to verbally or physically intimidate any player, tournament official or tournament volunteer may result in expulsion from the tournament of the entire team. This decision will be made solely by the Tournament Director and will not be negotiable once made.

6. Approved O.M.H.A. rosters or Alliance Hockey approved rosters will be required as proof of the players eligibility. These rosters must be presented to tournament officials before the first game. No player will be allowed to play without such evidence of eligibility. Only players and bench staff listed on the official OMHA or Alliance approved roster are allowed to participate in games. Bench staff MUST be on an approved electronic roster to participate in games. 

7. Any official or team official whose name appears on the official game report and/or participates in the game and is ineligible for any reason will cause their team to forfeit regardless of the score of the game. The non-offending team will be awarded 2 points for the win, and record a win of 4-0. The head Coach of the offending team will receive disciplinary action as per OMHA regulations.

8. There are no appeals or protests allowed at this tournament. OMHA 6.1(e). Any concerns or issues are to be addressed with the Tournament Director.

9. Teams may not enter the ice surface until the ice surfacing machine has left the ice and the entry doors are closed. 

10. Team officials are requested to do an inspection of their dressing rooms immediately before entering and after their players have left. Please report any damage or untidiness to the Tournament Director / Committee Member immediately. Offending teams are responsible for any costs associated with damage or untidiness.

11.  As a courtesy to the incoming teams please keep showers short and exit the dressing rooms as quickly as possible.

12. Dressing room keys will be provided at the tournament headquarters. Keys are not issued until a deposit is provided, which will be 
reimbursed once the room key is returned.

General:

The tournament will be not have body checking in Atom and Peewee divisions. Bantam and Midget divisions will have body-checking. 

The team listed as the 'home' team on the schedule will wear white or light colour jerseys. The team listed as the 'visitor' will wear dark colour jerseys. We ask that teams always bring both sets of jersey's (home and away)  to each game in the event there is an issue with team colours.

All players must wear all approved equipment and safety protection (example: neck and mouth guards) as per the O.M.H.A. Manual of Operations. Teams from outside the O.M.H.A. are only required to wear mouth guards if that is a requirement of their governing body. 

Teams must report to the dressing room forty minutes prior to the scheduled game time. All teams are required to be prepared to play up to 15 minutes  in advance of scheduled times if tournament conditions permit. Teams unable to make the scheduled starting time shall forfeit the game.

Mercy Rule: When any team is ahead by five or more goals in the third period, the game will proceed under "straight time" unless the gap is reduced to three goals, at which point the clock will revert back to "stop time". 

The only time the clock would be stopped during running time if an on-ice injury should occur. All minor penalties assessed during running time are of 3 minute duration.

Atom and Peewee Divisions

The Home Team in quarter finals, semi-finals and finals will be decided by the following in order: i) most points in RR games ii) most wins in RR games iii) least goals scored against in RR games iv) least penalty minutes in round robin games v) best GF percentage of in all round robin games: Goals for / Goals for + Goals against in RR games vi) Fastest goal in the first game of the tournament vii) Coin toss.

Atom and Peewee round robin games will be awarded 2 points for a victory, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. 

Atom and Peewee round robin, quarter and semi-final games will be 10-10-10 stop time periods, no flood.

Atom and Peewee final games will be 10-10-15 stop time periods, no flood.

No timeouts in round robin and quarter finals.

One 30 second timeout per team in semi-final and final games.

There are no ties in quarter-final, semi-final and final games. Please refer to the 'Tie Breaking' section.

Winning teams in the quarter final round will be seeded 1 through 4 in the semi-final round based upon the following:

a) Points total from the round robin games. Highest points total determining 1st seed, with the next highest determining 2nd seed and so on. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3.

In the event of a tie, the following formula will be applied:

*In the case of three or more teams tied in a division, the steps will apply to all teams till an advancing team is determined, then the remaining teams will begin again at a.

a) The result of the game between the tied teams. (Does not apply if a three way tie exists)
b) Goals for / Goals for + Goals Against (GF%)
c) Least goals against across all round robin games
d) Fastest goal in the tied teams first games of the tournament.
e) Least penalty minutes.
f) Coin toss

Bantam and Midget Divisions

The Home Team in quarter finals, semi-finals and finals will be decided by the following in order: i) most points in RR games ii) most wins in RR games iii) least goals scored against in RR games iv) least penalty minutes in round robin games v) best GF percentage of in all round robin games: Goals for / Goals for + Goals against in RR games vi) Fastest goal in the first game of the tournament vii) Coin toss.

Bantam and Midget round robin games will be awarded 2 points for a victory, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. 

Bantam and Midget round robin, semi-final games will be 10-10-12 stop time periods, no flood.

Bantam and Midget final games will be 10-10-15 stop time periods, no flood.

No timeouts in round robin games.

One 30 second timeout per team in semi-final and final games.

There are no ties in semi-final and final Bantam / Midget games. Please refer to the 'Tie Breaking' section.

Tie Breaking

Round Robin:

*In the case of three or more teams tied in a division, the steps will apply to all teams till an advancing team is determined, then the remaining teams will begin again at a.

In the event of an uneven schedule (Midget), a) does not apply. Proceed to b) until a an advancing team is determined. Then begin at b) to determine the next team.

b) Goals for / Goals for + Goals Against (GF%)
c) Least goals against across all preliminary games
d)
 Fastest goal in the tied teams first games of the tournament.
e) Least penalty minutes.

Tie Breaking in Quarter Finals (Atom and Peewee Divisions Only)

In the event that teams are tied after regulation time in quarter-final games, teams will revert to the following shoot-out format described as follows:  

Part A
- Total Goal Format

1. Ties in quarter final games will be decided by a shoot-out format. Coaches must indicate on the official score sheet prior to the game a list of 3 shooters, in order.

2. Shooters from each team will shoot at their opposing goaltender at the same time.

3. Three different shooters from each team will shoot with the total goals scored used to break the tie. If the game is still tied after the 3 shooters from each team, the shoot out will continue with a sudden death format. See Part B.

*In the event that a player listed for the shootout is suspended or seriously injured during the game, the coach will indicate an alternate shooter in  that players position.

Part B
- Sudden Victory Format

1. A player used during Part A above can only be repeated once during the sudden victory format portion until all skaters on the team have had an attempt.

2. The shootout continues one shooter at a time for each team until a winner is decided.


Tie Breaking in Semi-Finals & Finals (Atom, Peewee, Bantam & Midget)


1. If teams are tied after the regulation game time in the semi-final and final games, teams will begin a 5 minute O/T period, teams will play 3 skaters per side (3 on 3). 

2. If teams remain tied after the 5 minute sudden-death O/T period, teams will then revert to the shoot-out format described above in Part A and B.
