Tournament Rules 2018

1. O.W.H.A. rules shall apply except as listed below. 

2. A team representative must check in at the registration desk located at each arena at least one (1) hour before their first game.

3. Teams must be available to play thirty (30) minutes prior to their scheduled game time.

4. OWHA signed approved rosters, and any applicable releases are required for all participating player/teams. Birth certificates may be requested.

5. All "pickup players” must be declared and a copy of the OWHA Player Pickup Consent Form must be provided to tournament convener prior to the team's first game.

6. The Home team will wear white / light sweaters. (Exception: Teams with only one set of sweaters).

7. No games will begin before 8:00 a.m. No games will start later than 10:00 p.m. Friday or Saturday, or 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

8. Awards will be presented to all Champions and Finalists.

9. Intent to injure and fighting penalties will result in the player being expelled from the game and the remainder of the tournament. OWHA penalties and suspensions shall also apply.

10. Each team will be permitted one thirty (30) second time during Semi Final and Championship Games only.

11. Each team will play a minimum of three games.

12. All games will consist of two (2) periods of ten (10) minutes and one (1) period of twelve (12) minutes stop time. A “Mercy rule” will be implemented in the third period where the clock will be run at straight time in the event that one team is leading by 5 or more goals.  The clock will return to stop time if the score returns to less than a 5 goal differential.

13. Round robin qualifying series games will be allowed to end in a tie.

14. Two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a tie.

15. In the event that two (2) or more teams finishing tied in points after their round robin qualifying series, the following divisional tie-breaking criteria will be applied:

-Head-to-head record between tied teams
-Team with best record (most wins counts first) gains higher position
-GFA* percentage of all games played within the Qualifying Round (Round Robin)
-Lowest total penalty minutes incurred in Tournament within the Qualifying Round (Round Robin) 
-Team that scored first goal in game between two tied teams
-Coin Toss

16. Overtime – in the event that a Semi-Final or Championship game is tied at the end of regulation time the following procedure will apply:

•  A 10 minute stop time sudden victory period will be played
•  The teams will not change ends
•  Teams will play three (3) skaters and one (1) goalkeeper per side.  If a penalty occurs, the non-offending team will add a skater for the duration of the penalty.  When the penalty is over and there is a stoppage in play, both teams will return to (3) skaters.
•  If a penalty was in force at the end of regulation time it will carry over into overtime. 
•  If a team has not used its 30 second time-out it may do so in overtime
•  The game will continue with 10 minute stop time sudden victory periods until a winner is decided.  No shoot-out.

 

 Round Robin / Semi Final / Championship Format

8 team divisions 

- Teams will play a three game round robin qualifying series within their respective Pools (A or B).

- At the conclusion of the round robin, two Semi-Finals will be played, with the 1st place A Pool (home) playing 2nd place B Pool (visitor) and 1st place B Pool (home) play 2nd place A Pool (visitor).

- The winners of the Semi Finals will proceed to the Championship game.

- To determine the home position in the Championship game the divisional tie breaking criteria (outlined in Rule 15) will be applied, using Qualifying Round games only.

 

5 team division
Teams will play 4 game round robin and the top two teams advance to the final.

 

*GFA Formula

GFA closest to 1.000 advances

Goals for + Goals against = total goals; GFA = goals for divided by total goals.

e.g. 25 + 15 = 40 ; GFA = 25/40 = .625

In any cases of dispute, the Saugeen Shores Silver Stick Tournament Officials' decisions are final.
