Parkhill Regional NOVICE SILVER STICK HOCKEY
Tournament Rules
1. All team officials must sign in with the tournament director. Coaches must ensure that the tournament committee has the most current official roster. Our Silver Stick office is in the Tournament Room (behind the trophy case). It is the team’s responsibility to provide a copy of their roster sheet. Players do not have to sign in.
2. This tournament is fully sanctioned by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and all rules apply.
3. All games will consist of three 10 minute stop time periods. There are no overtime periods or time-outs in round robin games.
4. Overtime in elimination games only – All overtime periods are sudden victory, first goal determines the winner. The first overtime period will be 5 minute stop time. If a second period is needed it will consist of five, one minute periods starting with 5 skaters and 1 goalie per team. After each minute, one player will be removed from each team until there are 1 player and 1 goalie per team left. Play will continue like this until a winner is decided. Player changes during the second overtime format will only be allowed after each minute stoppage or during the play. All penalties will be served as normal except when teams are down to 1 skater per side. If a penalty occurs a penalty shot will be awarded, if no goal is scored play resumes until a player scores. In the event that a penalty is awarded when there are 2 players per side and time elapses. Teams will play 2 on 1 until the penalty expires. Once the penalty is finished 1 on 1 will start.
5. All protests must be submitted, in writing, to the tournament Directors for a ruling. All committee decisions on disputes will be final.
6. Teams should be in the dressing rooms ½ hour before game times and be ready to play 10 minutes before with game sheets filled out and returned to tournament officials.
7. At the end of each game (except the finals) players will be asked to remain on the ice and pins will be provided to the player/goalie for their outstanding play based on three categories: hat trick, playmaker (2 points) and shut out.
8. At the end of each division final an all-star team will be named to represent that division.
9. There are no time outs in division play but each team is allowed one time out in semi-final and final games.
10. If a team official (coach, asst. coach, manager or trainer) is given a game suspension during play. The Silver Stick committee may suspend the individual for the remainder of the tournament.
Tournament Rules for Preliminary Round
Division (4 teams):
- Teams in play each other for their preliminary games.
- After the round round-robin play, the teams will be seeded based on points, to determine the semi-final round of play. A win is 2 points, a tie is 1 point. There are no overtime games in the preliminary rounds.
- Teams tied will use the tie breaking rules. Tie Breaker for preliminary round of play:

Division (7 teams):
- The preliminary round of play consists of each team playing two games against teams randomly chosen from your division. There are no overtime games in the first round of play. A win is 2 points, a tie is 1 point.

- The first seeded team after the preliminary round of play will advance to the semi-final game. The second to seventh teams will play with the higher seeded teams playing the lower seeded teams.
Division (8 teams):
- Each division is randomly divided into groups of teams. Teams in each group play each other for their preliminary games.
- Round-robin play will determine who will go on to the semi-finals by placing as the top two teams in your group. A win is 2 points, a tie is 1 point. There are no overtime games in the preliminary rounds. Teams tied will use the tie breaking rules.
